December 2006
The Aryaseni Art Gallery was proud to play host to a ceramic
exhibition by local ceramic artist Mr. AB Latip Hussain, entitled “Terra
Verde Asia (green earth)” on 9 December 2006.
The exhibition was officially launch by the guest-of-honour, master
chef Mr. Angelo Sanelli, warmly-received and was attended by
colleagues, friends, students and art lovers. Mr. Angelo was invited
to sign the exhibition poster and was presented with a
specially-chosen spherical vase.
Latip’s works were themed around global issues like the tsunami,
hunger and poverty; his latest passion of golf; and the colours of
nature like brown, green and blue. Also riding on the enormity of
Mother Nature, he makes use of natural tools like stones, bones,
twigs, leaves and seashells to create the stunning designs and
imprints on his works. In spite of everything, this true lover of
nature still regards his hands as his “basic tool to create a unique
design”.
A truly humble man, Latip was reluctant to put a commercial value on
his works. All he ever wanted was to share his works, worldly wise
ideas and educate the public on social and global issues.
Latip is the student prodigy of Mr. Iskandar Jalil, the master
potter whose artworks hold the signature blue oxide colours.
The exhibition is ongoing until 17 December 2007, and also exhibits
pottery by four invited artists: Lim Kim Hui, Kiyomi Sakai, Kumiko
Saito and Masako Sawada.
November 2006
Rudi Mukahar's Exhibition -
"People in Paradise"
The Arya Management - a
subordinate of The Aryaseni Pte Ltd in collaboration with Zola Zolu
Gallery held an exhibition entitled "People in Paradise" by Rudi
Mukahar on November 11 to 13 in Bandung.
Mr Cosmas D. Gozali, on behalf of the Arya Management, gave the
opening speech and officially opened by long-time art-lover Mr. Hauw
Ming.
Art lovers and collectors flocked to the Zola Zolu Gallery at Ciwalk,
Cihampelas, Bandung.
The inspiration behind Mukahar’s exhibition is the common Balinese –
children, men and women of all ages – and beautifying their normal
life backdrops to resemble a “paradise”. The result is charmingly
composed, intricately detailed and breathtakingly realistic pastel
paintings of inspiring individuals, the signature style of Rudi
Mukahar.

October 2006
Rusli's Exhibition - "Small is
Big"
Between October
20 and November 12, 2006, the walls of The Aryaseni Art Gallery were
graced by the paintings of the late Indonesian art master Rusli
(1916-2005) in an exhibition entitled, “Small is Big”. Like the
theme suggests, each minute detail of the exhibition was a great big
affair.
The presence of
Mr. Andrajati, the Indonesian Ambassador ad interim of Charge
d’Affairs in Singapore, honoured the exhibition as he officially
launched the exhibition by penning his signature on the exhibition
banner. He was then presented a painting entitled “Little Mum” by
M.Japin, an Indonesian artist. “Little Mum” is a painting of three
Indonesian village children role-playing as adults with sling cloths
and teddy bears. The painting is a snapshot of the children's
activities in the village, which might vanish in the upcoming years
of globalization.

At the
exhibition, the guests – that comprised of Singapore and Indonesia art-lovers and art-collectors – were taken on a ride of Rusli’s life journey via his water colour
works of 25 years (1953-1978). Many seemed taken by the brilliance
and the story behind Rusli’s artworks that reveals his minimalist
art and lifestyle, and his larger-than-life philosophies and values.
Commenting on his watercolour paintings, Rusli once said, “I paint
not the object or the physicality, but the spirit, so everything can
be felt”. It is this value which he imparted in all his works that
allows his water colour paintings to be “felt” by all.

June 2006
Devastating news about an earth quake
happened in Yogyakarta on May 27th 2006 has reached us.
Thousands have become
victims of this grievous disaster. Some of them
lost their houses
and members of their family.
They
have no choice but to sleep on the paddy
field with no
shelters.
Many
people are left sick and hungry.
To Answer the arising
need, The Aryaseni Art
Gallery, with the help of one of the collector (Mrs. Linda Sumadi),
organize a donation to help
them to survive.
A short term plan is
to provide their daily meals. We will send
the money to some of the artists
that we know very well. They will prepare foods
to feed at least 100 people. The art School in
Jogyakarta has agreed to help. The whole process will be organize
by one of their lecturer and the students will
cooked the food.
A
longer term plan is to help
the artists to be able to
rebuild their lives. The gallery will sell
some art works of Jogyakarta’s artists
(such as Suharmanto, Gusti Alit,
Supomo, etc) and all the profit will go to
the artists. Buying their painting, is helping them
to survive and rebuild their lives.
We received donation from
Tanglin Trust School students and parents :
Kalahari Tatham and Kendall Tatham, Mrs. Fiona O'Sullivan, Mrs. Ruth Clark, Mrs. Sabine Rosario, Mrs. Debbie McGuinness, Mrs. Marina Hammarstrom,
Mrs. Claudia Bardelli & Family
and Mrs. Diana Smit
From the sale of the paintings and donations, we were able to bought
tents, mattresses and mats to construct temporary shelters and books
and stationeries for the children so that their learning did not
stop.
Suharmanto and Marsoyo with
the help of ISI lecturer Mr. Eddy Sunaryo and some students helped
to distribute to the villagers.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who have
participated that have made this effort possible. Thank you all.
